On Saturday, November 13, 2010 more than 200 high school-aged youth from across North Carolina will come together at the Raleigh Crabtree Valley Marriott from 10:00am – 4:00pm for the Fifth Annual North Carolina Youth Giving Summit.

Entitled “The VOICES Of Giving”, the Summit is designed to prepare how and where these high school students will grant over $75,000 to help their communities. The funds have been donated from philanthropic organizations across the state and will be entrusted to these youth for allocation. The planning and training for the decision-making is taking place, but actual decisions on how to spend the money will take place in individual communities later in the year.

The North Carolina Youth Giving Network (NCYGN) is a statewide collection of 21 different youth philanthropy sites, from as far East as New Hanover County to as far west as Wilkes County. Leading To Change, a nationally recognized training organization based in Charlotte, in partnership with NCGives, coordinates the NCYGN. NCYGN members at the Youth Giving Summit will learn strategies to assess the needs of their communities, techniques to effectively facilitate meetings, and methods to further develop resources in their communities. Community leaders and churches selected youth from their areas that are committed to giving back to the community for participation in the Summit.

The Summit draws youth and adults from over 25 counties, including Burke, Catawba, Cleveland, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Onslow, Pitt, Nash, New Hanover, Wake, and Wilkes Counties. This Summit marks the only annual convening of all of these counties for youth philanthropic efforts. Sponsors of the event include American Express, NCGives, North Carolina Community Foundation, the Winston-Salem Foundation, the Greenville Community Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

VISUAL/REPORTING HIGHLIGHTS: The Summit will open at 10:00am with 200 NC Youth participating in the VOICES OF GIVING presentation by “RED STATES" (www.redacappella.com) – A New York based championship acappella ensemble, and the closing session of Spoken Word will start at 3:00pm by the internationally recognized youth leadership and empowerment agency, R.E.A.C.H.
