(Raleigh, NC) – July 1, 2010 – Every year, the Raleigh Roundup attracts people from all over the Triangle in the name of giving cancer the boot. And with proceeds directly benefiting the American Cancer Society, primarily on a local level, the Roundup also attracts some very serious sponsors. This year, Wake Radiology has stepped up to become the first Premier Partner for the Wake County area, committing $25,000 to the American Cancer Society. The money will be dispersed among several Triangle events that benefit ACS, with $10,000 directed toward the Raleigh Roundup.
Hosted by the Red Sword Guild, the Raleigh Roundup is one of the Triangle’s favorite fundraising galas and works to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, education, patient advocacy and service. All proceeds directly benefit the American Cancer Society. With past galas, the Red Sword Guild has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars per year—more than $2.5 million overall since its inception in 1996—the majority of which helps families right here in the Triangle.
This year’s Raleigh Roundup will take place Friday, November 12, at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds’ Kerr Scott Building from 7 pm to midnight. The event follows tradition with a “country casual” theme and will feature live music by popular country band YARN, followed by dance band Party on the Moon. The gala is known for catering to a usually sold-out crowd—in more ways than one. Not only does the evening include live music, casino-style gaming, mechanical bull-riding, and live and silent auctions, but the early portion also features signature appetizers created especially for the occasion by some of North Carolina’s most talented chefs (called Chefs for A Cure).
Ashley White, one of the event’s co-chairs, states, “It’s thanks in large part to organizations like the American Cancer Society that there have been such remarkable advancements in technology and treatments for cancer. We’re proud to contribute our time and efforts to this worthwhile venture, and even more proud when we see the benefits come back full circle to directly help people in our Triangle community.”
Now in its fifth year, the Raleigh Roundup has grown significantly both in popularity and in funds raised for ACS, much of which can be attributed to sponsoring corporations and businesses. Tickets to the Roundup can be purchased online on the website as well, or by calling 919-334-5218 for $150 per person.
