Raleigh, N.C. -- iTero is an advanced digital imaging system that uses cadcam (computer aided design) technology to take higher accuracy images of teeth. Dr. Ashley Mann’s team already uses digital imaging with Cerec, one visit onlay and crown technology, and they are now able to provide “mess-free” models of teeth with iTero.
The old technology involved making the patient “bite” into a “goop” filled metal rim plate and sit still with the large form in their open mouth for the time it took for the “goop” to cure. From that a stone impression was made that did not last as long and wasn't as accurate.
Certain patients would experience anxiety and acute discomfort from the “gag reflex”, a reflex that is associated with choking because of the large object in the mouth. iTero’s digital wand for photographing and modeling doesn’t trigger the “gag reflex.”
This new technology increases the accuracy of the results. It allows for immediate distribution to the appropriate lab for the work needed where the lab can then prepare the treatment parts like teeth, bridges and headgear. The finished part is shipped to the office with time and cost savings.
