New Bern, North Carolina – June 29, 2010 - The North Carolina Bar
Association has released the list of recipients for its prestigious 2010
Citizen Lawyer Award.
Jimmie Hicks, partner at the prominent New Bern firm Sumrell Sugg
Carmichael Hicks and Hart, was included in the group of those recognized
by this years’ award. Formal presentation took place during the NCBA
Annual Meeting, on June 24-27 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside.
The NCBA Citizen Lawyer Award was established in 2007 to recognize lawyers
who provide exemplary public service to their communities. Honorees
include elected and appointed government officials, coaches, mentors and
voluntary leaders of non-profit, civic and community organizations
As a recipient, Hicks joins a select group of distinguished leaders in the
North Carolina legal community. The elite Citizen Lawyer accolade is but
the latest honor in Hicks’ long and illustrious career. Currently he leads
the firms practice in local government representation for several Eastern
North Carolina counties, in addition to other areas of practice.
Mr. Hicks has devotedly served his community as a member of the Craven
County Committee of 100, the New Bern 300th Anniversary Planning
Committee, the Swiss Bear Downtown Redevelopment Corporation, and the New
Bern Area Chamber of Commerce. He was the City of New Bern’s Ambassador to
City of Bern, Switzerland. He also serves as Chairman of the United
Methodist Church-New Bern District. Mr. Hicks is admitted to practice in
the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th
Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
