Quilters Make A Case For Wake Women In Recovery

Raleigh, NC (March 2, 2010)–Quilters and sewing enthusiasts are donating handmade pillowcases to The Healing Place of Wake County. Raleigh quilting shop, Wish Upon A Quilt, initiated the year-long pillowcase drive in response to the "Make A Million Pillowcases" challenge issued this year by American Patchwork and Quilting. In addition, Wish Upon A Quilt is contributing $1 to The Healing Place for every pillowcase donated--that's $175 so far.
Caring gestures do make a difference in our community. The gift of a handmade pillowcase tells a woman recovering from addiction that someone cares about her. The Healing Place will also use the pillowcases in further fundraising efforts.
"This is a great way for quilters who have a stash of fabric hidden in their closets to recycle it for a good cause," said Cathy McKillip, owner of Wish Upon A Quilt. "We chose The Healing Place of Wake County because they do tremendous work in our community to help men and women who are recovering from alcohol and drug addictions."
Lissa Rousseau, marketing director of The Healing Place said, "These pillowcases bring smiles to the faces of our clients. Many of them have traveled a rough road and these help them to know that the community cares about them."
