Raleigh, NC — Raleigh-based percussionist Andrew Munger will present a free solo percussion recital and clinic on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 6pm. Held at 2112 Percussion at 1003 E. Whitaker Mill Road in Raleigh, this all-ages event will celebrate the release of Munger's new drumset method book, Building Grooves: A Beginner’s Guide to Drumset Control and Coordination. ($12; Available from http://stores.lulu.com/rhythmart)
At the concert, Munger will perform works for snare drum, drumset, marimba, and djembe, including several world premieres of his own compositions. Following his performance, Munger will present a clinic packed with helpful information about growing as a percussionist, musical creativity, and the Building Grooves approach. Autographed copies of Building Grooves will be available for sale at the event.
Unlike many drumset methods on the market today, Building Grooves doesn’t teach prepackaged patterns, but instead gives readers the tools to create their own unique drumset patterns while developing solid playing technique. Using this creative approach allows readers to design grooves that translate into many different styles of music.
