Local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event needs participants to win state-wide competition.

(RALEIGH, NC) – (MARCH 24, 2010) – The local Relay event held at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC is participating in a state-wide “competition” to get the most community members registered between Wednesday, March 24th and Tuesday, March 30th at midnight. The top two events in the state of NC will receive $2,500 each. Those wishing to help can go to www.relayforlife.org/briercreekrtp, click the “Sign Up” button and either register a new team of your friends and family, join a team you are familiar with (your local church, school or civic organization) or select the “individual sign up” option at the bottom of the page. Registration is $10 and includes an event t-shirt. The registration fee for cancer survivors is waived. Community members who choose to join will receive information about the event and how the American Cancer Society is making a difference in our community. Registered participants will also be eligible to take part in the following two weeks competition to help the event raise an additional $5,000! For more information or questions on how you can help: call 919-334-5245 or email Sarah Caudle at sarah.caudle@cancer.org.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® is seeking volunteers in the Brier Creek  and Research Triangle Park area – walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders, anyone wanting to make a difference – to organize and recruit fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, seek refreshments and prizes, and lend a hand to ensure the success of the 2010 event.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
