RALEIGH, NC February 2, 2010 – The American Cancer Society in the Triangle Area needs volunteers for its Road to Recovery program to drive cancer patients to and from their cancer treatments.

“A successful Road to Recovery program is a tremendous asset to the community, and volunteers provide an essential and life-saving service,” said Daniel Thorpe, American Cancer Society Area Executive Director. “They ensure that cancer patients are able to take advantage of the latest medical advantages and receive regular cancer treatments. We estimate that over 1000 cancer patients in the Triangle Area will face a burden this year when it comes finding a way to their cancer treatment. Road to Recovery helps bridge this gap.”

Join this meaningful program and make a positive difference in the lives of those around you. Free training is provided. Requirements for volunteering for Road to Recovery include a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a vehicle that is in good working condition.

For more information on becoming a Road to Recovery volunteer, call your
American Cancer Society at 919-334-5218 or email tracey.smith@cancer.org.
