2010 Polar Party to Conquer Cancer Date Set

The Polar Challenge to Conquer Cancer events have grown at a rapid pace since they were first organized by Neil Banerjee in 1997 when his mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. She died two years later. It all started with a small group of 16 friends playing a friendly golf tournament and raising $320 for The American Cancer Society. Since that time, the event has grown tremendously into now multiple events: the Polar Challenge Golf Tournament (03/06/10), the Polar Party (02/27/10), and the Solar Challenge (04/10/10) all women’s golf outing. In 2009, there were 120 participants at the Polar Challenge golf tournament, 170 people at the Polar Party, and 64 women at the Solar Challenge golf outing. Since inception, these events have contributed nearly a quarter of a million dollars to the American Cancer Society.

This year’s Polar Party to Conquer Cancer promises to be a great event. Banish those winter blues and come join us for a Mediterranean Bash! It will be an evening of great food, live entertainment, silent auction, free raffle, and plenty of fun. So please come join us on Saturday, February 27 in the Grand Ballroom at Brier Creek Country Club from 7PM to 10PM.

For nearly a century, the American Cancer Society has fought for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. By taking what we’ve learned through research and turning it into what we do, we have contributed to a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate between the early 1990s and 2005. That means that we helped avoid about 650,000 cancer deaths and created the potential for more birthday celebrations. Overall, 11 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year. What better reason is there to come enjoy a nice evening and good company?
